The stories included in WORDS AND MUSIC, Volume one, were written by Joe D'Ambrosio over the many years he worked as an artist within the book medium. Originally, they were issued in book form as illustrated limited editions. The addition of music to accompany the recitation of his stories is very recent. The author not only wrote the stories but also composed the music that one hears in the background. The stories included are (Track one) EMILY AND OSCAR (11 minutes) narrated by Susan Nance with the singing voice of her husband, Jim Nance; (Tracks two, three, and four) DAISIES NEVER TELL (30 minutes total) narrated by the author, and (Track five) THE LITTLE SAND CRAB (15 minutes), narrated by the author, and contains overly dramatic original music to stress the satirical presentation of the story.

DVD BOOKS
The first in this new medium
of books designed especially for the small screen of a computer
that is capable of playing a digital video disc.
It is important that a DVD Book not be confused with an E-book.
An E-book has a static image of text and background
while a DVD Book has animated text moving on a changing background.
A DVD Book may be viewed on a home TV,
but its optimum setting is a computer and earphones for sound,
in order to capture the same intimacy as a single human mind
recreating images from words on a page.

This tale exploiting the questionable freedom of birds to equate what human beings must do to survive in a world that is constantly challenging one's existance, is created solely to coincide with the music composed by Amilcare Ponchielli. The entire pace of the animation and story relfect the tempo and pathos of the music. The action is presented in ballet form with moving text. There is no voice over. The intellectual communication must be read, just as in an object that has printed words on a paper page. The disc runs 15 minutes and 31 seconds, and is presented in a book structure with text that explains how the story came to be and what devices were used to create the end result.

THROUGH A GLASS

Presented in an artist's book structure with the entire text printed on fifty-one pages, this next stage in the evolution of the DVD Book uses no character animation as the above "I Can't Fly." Instead, only the words and the backgrounds move, much as printed words on a sheet of paper allows a viewer's mind to envision the action. It becomes as personal and intimate as the original concept of a book. The visual story (which includes background music) is related on two discs (part one - 28:36 minutes, and part two - 32:20 minutes) nestled in the back cover of the book. The discs are separated into five callable sections.
